The historic Ryman Auditorium, where Johnny Cash found love and glory, became a vessel for love and honor last night, as a remarkable cast of artists and friends paid tribute to an American icon.
Beginning with a spiritual overture from the Fisk Jubilee Singers and ending more than four hours later, The Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute: A Celebration of Friends and Family brimmed over with stories, standing ovations and songs in what emcee Tim Robbins called ''a celebration of a remarkable life.'' It was the first public memorial since Cash died Sept. 12 at age 71.
