The historic Ryman Auditorium, where Johnny Cash found love and glory, became a vessel for love and honor last night, as a remarkable cast of artists and friends paid tribute to an American icon. Beginning with a spiritual overture from the Fisk Jubilee Singers and ending more than four hours later, The Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute: A Celebration of Friends and Family brimmed over with stories, standing ovations and songs in what emcee Tim Robbins called ''a celebration of a remarkable life.'' It was the first public memorial since Cash died Sept. 12 at age 71.

Pall Bearers take the coffin of June Carter Cash inside the church Entertainer June Carter Cash was remembered Sunday as a warm, loving woman who always thought of others before herself. Her funeral, at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, was open to the public and more than 1,000 attended. Well-known musicians, like the Oak Ridge Boys, Gatlin Brothers, Sheryl Crow and Emmylou Harris sang at the funeral. The music was moving but so were many of the tributes.
